Weight Loss Helps One Appear More Youthful

By Wiliam Merchant

Weight loss is an important factor when it comes to developing a healthy lifestyle. The overweight person not only looks older because of the extra pounds he carries, but he is also risking his health by remaining overweight. The person who wants to appear younger need only lose weight in order to improve his appearance and help add years to his life.

An extra pound around the mid section increases the risk of heart attack because extra pounds put strain on the heart. The heart is a muscle and the harder a muscle has to work, the more strain the muscle endures. A person who is overweight will put more stress on his heart and therefore cause the heart muscle to weaken over time.

There are many ways to lose extra pounds but remember that in order to lose weight one has to abide by a simple concept. That simple concept is that one must burn more calories than one eats. Think of the body as a checking account. If more money goes into the account than is drawn out, a surplus is created. A surplus in a bank account is a positive situation but not so when it comes to our bodies.

If our bodies take in more calories that are expended, a surplus is created and that surplus turns into fat. Counting calories is not easy and one can become so caught up in counting calories that one will become frustrated after a few weeks or even a few days and go back to his old way of eating. It is better to use practical ways to cut calories than counting every calorie in every meal.

If one is used to eating off a large dinner plate then there is a good chance that more calories that necessary are being consumed. Use a smaller serving plate to cut down on calories and the body will not even notice that a lower number of calories are being consumed. Try to concentrate on the taste of food and not the amount of food consumed.

Avoid the television during mealtime because the TV interferes with the body's feeling of fullness. As long as the TV is on one will continue to eat and those extra calories will be converted into extra pounds. Avoid listening to music because music will interfere with the body's feeling of fullness.

Weight loss can be achieved by taking some easy steps and making some easy changes. The overweight person is at risk for heart attack and other maladies. Try to burn off more calories each day than are consumed and the body will naturally lose weight.
