Healthy herbs have provided a constant supply of essential nutrients for a very long time. These nutrients are utilized by the body to ensure our wellbeing. The various parts of these plants are known for their ability to heal multiple illnesses, pleasing fragrance and their contribution in making recipes. They are important to human beings because of their medicinal value, health benefits, nutritional value and culinary uses.

Although herbal plants have been a major component of our diet for a long period of time, little was known about their real value. Recent scientific research has revealed their unknown health benefits and detoxification properties. Their usefulness is seen in our homes, medical field and many other areas. These numerous health benefits have been exploited to ensure our wellbeing. They contain essential oils, unique antioxidants, phyto-steroils, vitamins, and many other nutrients found in plants which enable the body to fight toxins, germs and boost the immunity level. They are natural medicines in small dosages.

The essential oils derived from them have been found to contain anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation is a precursor to numerous chronic conditions such as allergies, heart disease and Alzheimer. This property enables them to inhibit cyclooxygenase enzyme which is responsible for mediating inflammatory cascade reactions in our body. These essential oils are used to cure patients with inflammatory health disorders such as osteo-arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory conditions affecting the bowel like ulcerative conditions.

These plants contain numerous unique compounds that are useful to individuals suffering from diabetes in lowering the quantities of blood sugar. Control studies in epidemiology have led to the discovery of compounds like allicin found in garlic which monitor the levels of cholesterol and blood pressure and prevent risks of diseases such as stroke and coronary artery disorders. Compounds such as curcumin are effective antioxidants.

Compounds such as vitamins, antioxidants and volatile oils have cytotoxicity properties to counter cells in organs such as the pancreas, colon and prostrate. Antioxidants also provide protection against free radicals arising from the exposure to radiation or those produced during the break down of food in the body. They provide adequate protection against heart disease, cancer and many other disorders.

Nutritionists and chefs who are health conscious recommend the inclusion of culinary herbs in dishes to add a spicy taste and special flavor. They also contain numerous anti-microbial elements that protect the food we consume from harmful bacteria. Healthy herbs are essential components of recipes and are used in the preparation of soups, herbal sauces, vegetables, fruit salads and are also used as flavor drinks. The antioxidant richness of the herbal plants and spices adds more health to dishes.

They are widely used to facilitate weight loss. Healthy herbs stimulate metabolism, promote satiety, help in weight management and improve the quality of our diet. Spices manufactured from these plants such as peppers which contain capsaicin are major metabolic boosters. These spices contain fewer calories and their consumption has less risk to our body.

Healthy herbs are a good alternative to medicines since they are gentle on the body and have few side effects. They work gradually and allow the body ample time for the body to make adjustments. Some chemical compounds are deodorants, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, lypolytic and analgesic and stimulate these processes when taken in proper dosages. Pharmaceutical drugs lack natural ingredients such as dietary vitamins essential for efficient body functioning.
